Nocturnal Studio Logo & Business Card
Students were asked to create a video and logo that represented their identity as a creator. The logo was also to be animated. As a personal project, the logo was revised and revised to create a business card. Two logo layouts, two color variations, and a business card were created.
Prior Revision Work
For the self-identity project, a storyboard was created to plan out what assents were needed for the final video. Night and a showcase of work were the main elements in this project. The idea of different elements of animation and video were transitioned into one another to express how all these aspects work together. All assets were then created as well as the logo.
When designing the logo, the crescent moon was made to represent both the night and the cycle of animation. The paint drips and brush font are meant to represent the illustration side of animation and identity. For the logo animation, a dawn and dusk color pallet was used to bring in the feeling of working through the night.

Logo Revision
After some time, the design was revised and improved. Upon further inspection, the previous logo’s ink drops were too uneven and read more like spikes than drops. The chosen font was also too busy and took away from the overall logo.
In the revisions, the central ideas of the moon and paint drips were kept but created using big round shapes to read better. The font was also changed to “Skinny Me,” which had a handwritten font that wasn’t too busy. Layout studies were then tested and critiqued.
Final Output
For the final output, two layouts were chosen, a compacted square and a horizontal composition. The logo was chosen to be filled to read better. A layout for a business card was also created. The front has an illustration of the owner’s portrait with characters they’ve created in the background. The illustration focuses on showing the illustrator’s style, which is heavy on line weight and cross-hatching. For the back of the card, the logo was placed behind the accent color of the brand, variations of teal, with their contact bellow to give a centered clean look.
